In 1944, Morris Spector, then a young army veteran fresh from the war, returned to the East Coast to start a family and career. After finding work at the Acme Industrial Company, a steel shop in Roxbury, MA, Morris stayed for only a year, as he saw the writing on the wall: veterans returning from WWII would need places to live and places to work; the building boom had begun.
After a short stint refurbishing real estate, Morris and his good friend Jimmy McAleney started a small metal fabrication shop in South Boston. After a few years working together, they parted as friends to establish their own successful businesses. In Hyde Park, Morris started his own metal fabrication shop, Spector Metal Products. |
Living in Mattapan with his wife Mildred, daughter Susan and son Richard, business was brisk. Several years passed, with both the company and family growing rapidly. After son Steven was born, Morris and Mildred decided more space was needed, so they packed up and moved to Holbrook, a small suburb 15 miles south of Boston. Shortly thereafter, twins David and Brian joined the family.
Scouting out a location for the new shop, Morris found a multi-acre plot of land just a few miles away in Holbrook. This tree covered lot was the perfect location for his new metal fabrication plant. After years of clearing land and building, the new shop was ready.
